Philip Mauro was a dispensationalist before he was its most uncomfortable critic. A patent lawyer who argued before the Supreme Court, he embraced the system in his early Christian life and worked on the Scofield Reference Bible itself. Then he read it against Scripture, and could not keep it. This book is the account of that reversal, argued point by point: the seven dispensations, the postponed kingdom, the parenthesis church, the two peoples of God. Mauro takes each claim to the text and asks it to answer. He writes as a lawyer cross-examining a witness he once believed, and the book has troubled dispensational readers for a century precisely because the man knew the system from inside.
